But this is only the beginning.. The "inevitable" full time paid staff in each station results in a massive increase of the budget.
Hiring a fully paid department (36 members) would cost $117,779 per firefighter. This cost includes payroll taxes, medical insurance, workman's compensation and overtime.
Consolidation would only speed up the hiring of a full time paid staff (36 Members). The cost for payroll would be - $4,240,044
and a total budget of $6,820,044 for District One. Add the budgets for the other Fire Districts and the total cost is $16,503,937. This does not include full paid staffing of 16 firefighters for each of the six stations.
